DESCRIPTION:Addressing the wellness needs of those working in agriculture or related areas will be the focus of several upcoming Question-Persuade-Refer (QPR) Suicide Prevention webinars sponsored by North Dakota State University Extension. The 90-minute webinar will address concerns of high stress levels in agriculture-related jobs and the toll on mental and emotional well-being. \n\n\n\nThough focused on individuals working in and around agriculture\, anyone interested in the topic can register. There is no cost for the training\, which is supported by a grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture. \n\n\n\nResearch indicates the suicide rate is significantly higher for those working in agriculture. The QPR training will provide participants with awareness and skills to recognize and respond to warning signs of a mental health crisis or suicidal thinking\, and how to respond in an appropriate and supportive way. \n\n\n\nRegistration is limited to the first 30 participants per webinar.

Join Dr. Sam Lord\, soil ecologist and Assistant Research Professor at the University of Missouri Center for Agroforestry\, for a two-part webinar series where we will explore how diverse soil microbes\, most of which are still unknown to science\, interact with plants and their environment to move nutrients\, store carbon\, and help ecosystems remain stable through change. \n\n\n\nBy comparing native prairies with managed agricultural soils and using modern tools that let us see both who is there and what they are doing\, this work opens the “black box” of soil life. This work features contributions from 35 farmers\, scientists\, poets\, land stewards\, Indigenous knowledgeholders\, faith leaders\, food writers\, ethnobotanists\, environmental historians\, teachers\, and community leaders. Copies of the book will be available for purchase and signing\, courtesy of Raven Book Store.  \n\n\n\nIn Lawrence\, a number of leaders and organizations bring us in closer relationship to the land through their work. We invite all attendees to learn more about the efforts of these groups and offer something of their own making/foraging/history to bring to the table.
