SUMMARY:Ask A Farmer Anything About Agriculture Webinar (VIRTUAL)
DESCRIPTION:What the Farm is Going on Out There?  \n\n\n\nA virtual dialogue for conservation professionals to ask all their questions about agriculture.  \n\n\n\nJoin SWCS CEO Clare Lindahl and SWCS member and Minnesota Soil Health Coalition Executive Director Mark Gutierrez for a virtual dialogue with Matt Tiffany\, a Minnesota farmer growing corn\, soybeans for seed and sweetcorn where conservation professionals can get ALL their questions about farming answered. \n\n\n\nMatt Tiffany Bio \n\n\n\nMatt grows corn\, soybeans for seed\, and sweetcorn for over 20 years and has always looked for ways to do things better. The short season soybeans and sweetcorn he grows provides a great opportunity for cover crops and Matt has enjoyed the success of that for many years. \n\n\n\nMatt strip-tills after soybeans and before corn which Matt has experienced great success. Half of Matt’s land is in continuous no-till corn/soybean rotation and feels that there are numerous benefits to that as well. Matt has been Minnesota Ag Water Quality Certified for many years and continues to implement practices to benefit water such as rock intakes\, sediment basins\, and other conservation practices. \n\n\n\nMany conservation professionals didn’t grow up on a farm or are new to positions. It can be hard to ask questions in the field without feeling like you’re losing credibility. This session is designed to be an open\, judgment-free space to ask what you’ve always wanted to know and build confidence in having conversations and building relationships with farmers.

SUMMARY:Soil Health Partnership Webinar
DESCRIPTION:When it comes to healthy soils\, no-till is far more than just planting a crop without tillage. By adopting continuous no-till with crop rotation and residue management\, producers can conserve soil and water resources and reduce the need for some of their purchased inputs. Improved productivity and profitability follow as the soil health improves\, making their production systems more resilient while reducing risks to the environment. One of the keys to success is diversity in the system to reduce production risks\, spread the workload\, and better feed the soil system. A healthy soil becomes more resilient\, cycles residue and nutrients better\, and stores more water. The presentation will use a lot of real-field examples to illustrate these points and many other benefits of continuous no-till.

SUMMARY:Soil Health Nexus Digital Cafe Series Webinar (VIRTUAL)
DESCRIPTION:The Soil Health Nexus is hosting a series of informal soil health webinars featuring Extension soil health experts and researchers from across the region\, who will discuss the latest soil health research\, resources\, and news. The webinars take place monthly; they are an hour long\, with a 20-minute presentation\, followed by 10 minutes of Q&A\, and then a casual 30-minute Digital Café where attendees can continue discussing the topic in more depth with Soil Health Nexus members. \n\n\n\nThis month’s topic: Soil and Human Health: Current Status and Future Needs. \n\n\n\nJoin us for this July edition of the Soil Health Nexus Digital Café\, featuring Dr. Jonathan Brevik\, Professor of Soils and Geology at Southern Illinois University\, as he discusses the ways soil influences our health. Soil usually isn’t the first thing people think of when their health comes up\, but there are many connections. Soils provide the nutrient base for our foods and the majority of modern medicines\, and they can also cause disease or illness. The connections are both direct and indirect. Dr. Brevik will highlight many connections between soils and human health and discuss pressing future research needs in this area.

SUMMARY:MPF Webinar: Making "Home on the Range" for Monarch Butterflies (VIRTUAL)
DESCRIPTION:The abundance of milkweed species\, the sole host plants for monarch larvae\, has dramatically declined in the past 25 years due to increased usage of herbicides and the spread of row crop agriculture that covers 21% of the continental United States. Given the importance of milkweeds to monarch larvae\, there has been a major conservation effort to increase milkweed abundance in many sectors. \n\n\n\nHowever\, conservation efforts have largely ignored rangeland because of the incorrect assumption that grazers do not consume milkweeds\, and that milkweed abundance may be near maximum in rangeland. This is a significant conservation blind spot because rangeland covers 34% of the continental United States. \n\n\n\nJoin University of Nebraska Omaha Associate Professor of Biology and Environmental Studies Associate Director Timothy Dickson\, Ph.D.\, for a webinar on his research exploring how grazing grasslands in Nebraska\, Kansas\, Missouri\, and Iowa can better support the monarch lifecycle through the promotion of native milkweed species as cattle food sources. \n\n\n\nThis free webinar\, to be held via Zoom\, will include a presentation and a live question-and-answer session. The webinar will be recorded\, and a link to the recording will be sent to all registrants and posted to the MPF YouTube channel.

SUMMARY:Good Idea Shop Talk: Week 1 (VIRTUAL)
DESCRIPTION:This week’s topic: How can we stretch the nutrient benefits of cover crops and manure without hurting our ROI? Pitched by Nebraska producer Walt Traudt. \n\n\n\nThis free\, virtual meet-up series is for producers who want to exchange ideas for troubleshooting on-farm challenges related to improving soil and water resources\, while protecting profitability. \n\n\n\nHave you found yourself wishing you could talk to other producers who are using or considering conservation practices to improve their soil\, land\, and bottom lines? \n\n\n\nWhether you lack peers in your community whom you can talk to\, or you just want to hear what producers elsewhere are doing and learning\, this meet-up series is for you.
