SUMMARY:Livestock guardian dogs: Practical insights from the pasture
DESCRIPTION:As predator pressure remains a constant challenge for livestock producers\, North Dakota State University Extension and University of Minnesota Extension sheep and goat specialists will provide an informative webinar to help protect animals. \n\n\n\nThe webinar will feature a sheep producer who has owned guardian dogs for decades. \n\n\n\nIt will feature guest speaker Janet McNally\, owner of Tamarack Lamb & Wool. McNally brings more than four decades of sheep-rearing experience\, including twenty years of full-time management in a large predator environment near Hinckley\, Minnesota. \n\n\n\nWhile McNally began utilizing guardian dogs in 1982\, her expertise was put to the ultimate test in 1999 when a pack of 23 wolves moved into her immediate neighborhood. For the following decade\, she successfully managed a group of eight to 12 livestock guardian dogs\, deterring wolves\, bears\, bobcats\, coyotes and fishers from her flock. \n\n\n\nThe webinar is free to attend\, but registration is required.

SUMMARY:NACD Conservation Coffee webinar- Brewing Partnerships: Tackling Nitrate in Northeast Nebraska
DESCRIPTION:Presented by Jim Olson\, Source Water Protection Specialist\, learn how proactive outreach and producer partnerships are protecting drinking water in northeast Nebraska. \n\n\n\nNitrate contamination remains a persistent drinking water challenge across agricultural regions of the Midwest. This presentation shares an outreach model used in northeast Nebraska to proactively engage producers and communities whose water supplies are approaching the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency nitrate maximum contaminant level. The session will highlight communication strategies\, measurable outcomes\, and lessons learned and explore the value of building a collaborative Source Water Protection Network to expand conservation impact.

SUMMARY:MPF Webinar: Opening the Black Box- Soil Microbial Complexity- Part 2: Soil as the Final Frontier (VIRTUAL)
DESCRIPTION:Soil is far more than a growing medium; it is a living system filled with unseen organisms that quietly regulate how ecosystems function. Join Sam Lord\, soil ecologist and Assistant Research Professor at the University of Missouri Center for Agroforestry\, for a two-part webinar series where we will explore how diverse soil microbes\, most of which are still unknown to science\, interact with plants and their environment to move nutrients\, store carbon\, and help ecosystems remain stable through change. By comparing native prairies with managed agricultural soils and using modern tools that let us see both who is there and what they are doing\, this work opens the “black box” of soil life. Together\, these talks show that soil is not a static backdrop for plants\, but an active\, dynamic frontier where biological interactions belowground shape the health and resilience of landscapes above ground. The first part of this webinar series will occur on March 25\, 2026. \n\n\n\nThis free webinar\, to be held via Zoom\, will include a presentation and a live question-and-answer session. The webinar will be recorded\, and a link to the recording will be sent to all registrants and posted to the MPF YouTube channel.

SUMMARY:QPR Suicide Prevention Training
DESCRIPTION:Addressing the wellness needs of those working in agriculture or related areas will be the focus of several upcoming Question-Persuade-Refer (QPR) Suicide Prevention webinars sponsored by North Dakota State University Extension. The 90-minute webinar will address concerns of high stress levels in agriculture-related jobs and the toll on mental and emotional well-being. \n\n\n\nThough focused on individuals working in and around agriculture\, anyone interested in the topic can register. There is no cost for the training\, which is supported by a grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture. \n\n\n\nResearch indicates the suicide rate is significantly higher for those working in agriculture. The QPR training will provide participants with awareness and skills to recognize and respond to warning signs of a mental health crisis or suicidal thinking\, and how to respond in an appropriate and supportive way.

SUMMARY:Question-Persuade-Refer (QPR) Suicide Prevention Webinar (VIRTUAL)
DESCRIPTION:Addressing the wellness needs of those working in agriculture or related areas will be the focus of several upcoming Question-Persuade-Refer (QPR) Suicide Prevention webinars sponsored by North Dakota State University Extension. The 90-minute webinar will address concerns of high stress levels in agriculture-related jobs and the toll on mental and emotional well-being. \n\n\n\nResearch indicates the suicide rate is significantly higher for those working in agriculture. The QPR training will provide participants with awareness and skills to recognize warning signs of a mental health crisis or suicidal thinking and respond in an appropriate and supportive way. \n\n\n\nThough focused on individuals working in and around agriculture\, anyone interested in the topic can register. There is no cost for the training\, which is supported by a grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture. \n\n\n\nNDSU Extension agents Katie Henry\, Cavalier County\, Jill Sokness\, Cass County\, and NDSU Extension specialist Madeleine Smith\, will facilitate the webinar.

SUMMARY:Farming with Soil Life Virtual Short Course: Southeast Region
DESCRIPTION:Join the Xerces Society’s Farming with Soil Life Short Course (virtual via Zoom) to learn about beneficial soil life! This online course will highlight the importance of macro and micro animals in soil that contribute to maintaining healthy and productive soils on working lands\, the functions they perform\, and guidelines for optimizing land management practices to support diverse soil fauna. This course is free to attend\, but registration is required. Visit the Xerces Society’s events page for more info. Learn more and register here today! \nThis short course training is funded by Southern SARE as a Professional Development Project and designed for farmers\, working lands managers\, NRCS staff\, Soil and Water Conservation District staff\, Extension Specialists and Educators\, Agronomists and other agricultural professionals\, and conservation practitioners in the Southeast SARE region (AL\, AR\, FL\, GA\, KY\, LA\, MS\, NC\, OK\, SC\, TN\, TX\, VA) interested in increasing their ability to interpret and manage land to support diverse aboveground and belowground ecosystems\, while also increasing crop resilience and soil health. \nLearning Objectives \nImprove technical knowledge of major soil invertebrate groups in the southern SARE region\, including identification\, ecology and roles in soil health\, scouting methods\, and conservation strategies. \nBe able to conduct hands-on scouting and sampling of soil animals to evaluate species diversity in agricultural settings. \nUnderstand how invertebrate diversity may be used as a rough bioindicator of soil health\, and learn to compare the diversity of soil animals across areas with differing management practices. \nLearn practical\, science-based conservation strategies to help increase the abundance and diversity of soil animal life\, and how USDA Farm \nBill conservation programs may be used to support adoption of these strategies. \nIncrease adoption of management practices that support soil invertebrates and soil health.
