SUMMARY:Soil Health Master Class Presented by Dr. Liz Haney
DESCRIPTION:This intensive masterclass will provide an in-depth exploration of the revolutionary Haney Soil Health Test\, developed by soil chemist and microbiologist Rick Haney. Unlike traditional soil tests that rely on statistics from labs or single geographic areas\, the Haney Test treats each field as a dynamic\, living system\, examining soil from a holistic and biological perspective rather than the typical physical and chemical approach. What You’ll Learn:– How the Haney Test uses H3A extraction to assess individual field variables– Understanding soil health data collection and interpretation– Real-world applications for improving soil health and farm productivity– Strategies for implementing soil health practices that rebuild rather than deplete soil function– How to read and apply test results to make meaningful improvements on your own farm \n\n\n\nSoil_Health_Masterclass_Press_Release_FINALDownload

SUMMARY:Book Launch and Community Table for "Living Roots: The Promise of Perennial Foods"
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a celebration of perennial foods and their deep roots in this land and community! We’ll gather around a common table to share and build local connections\, enjoy perennial treats\, and engage in conversation with Liz Carlisle\, Aubrey Streit Krug\, Megan Kaminski\, and Kelly Kindscher about their new book\, Living Roots: The Promise of Perennial Foods. This work features contributions from 35 farmers\, scientists\, poets\, land stewards\, Indigenous knowledgeholders\, faith leaders\, food writers\, ethnobotanists\, environmental historians\, teachers\, and community leaders. Copies of the book will be available for purchase and signing\, courtesy of Raven Book Store.  \n\n\n\nIn Lawrence\, a number of leaders and organizations bring us in closer relationship to the land through their work. We invite all attendees to learn more about the efforts of these groups and offer something of their own making/foraging/history to bring to the table. Share something that reflects your connection to the seasons and perennial stewardship in this place\, and bring your calendar to sign up for future events! \n\n\n\nThis event is held in partnership with The Land Institute and The Commons at KU.

SUMMARY:Raising and Grazing Goats Academy
DESCRIPTION:Raising and Grazing Goats Academy Will Highlight Using Goats as a Land Management Tool!Goats are nature’s solution to woody plants and undesired vegetation. The last thing that a goat wants to eat is grass! This makes the goat a perfect answer for all of the plants that ranchers struggle with to control; that the cows and sheep don’t like. This plant material is perfect for a group of goats. In addition to solving the invasive species problem an added bonus is the crop of goat kids as a revenue stream for the producer. The weaned kids can be saved as replacement animals\, used for a rent-a-goat land management service or sold for income.Any producer considering raising goats should plan to attend one of these two-day grazing schools\, to be offered June 1-2\, June 8-9\, or June 29-30\, 2026. These two-day schools will be held at the SAVE Farm\, 9680 N 52nd St. Riley\, KS. Registration starts at 9:00 a.m. with Class from 9:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.There is no cost to attend this grazing school. Lunch will be provided and attendees will be given a 3-ring binder resource guide with information and room to compile and store the business records for the goat business. Pre-registration is needed for planning lunch and handouts. Please provide complete name\, mailing address\, email\, phone number for everyone that is attending. Please pre-register using the QR Code or with Mary Howell\, mary@kglc.org or call/text 785-562-8726.Instructors for this school are Mary Powell and Lora Frick. Both ladies have raised goats their entire lives and have great information to share with everyone in attendance.Topics to be presented are:Day 1 (Mondays) – Selecting the right goat\, animal science of goats 101\, breeding\, kidding\, and herd health. Some hands-on care of goats will be included.Day 2 (Tuesdays) – Making goats a business\, accounting\, budgeting\, marketing\, goat rental\, fencing and using the goats to help manage the land including invasive speciesFor information or questions contact: Mary Howell\, mary@kglc.org or call/text 785-562-8726.This great introductory level goat grazing school is made possible by a grant from USDA-NRCS. SUMMARY:Switzer/KSU Agriculture Camp for Youth
DESCRIPTION:This hands-on experience introduces youth to agriculture\, leadership\, and cultural heritage while exploring Kansas State University’s College of Agriculture and the historic community of Nicodemus. \n\n\n\nThe Switzer/KSU Agriculture Camp for Youth is a week-long program designed to introduce young people to agriculture\, leadership\, and the history of farming. During the camp\, students visit Kansas State University’s College of Agriculture\, where they participate in hands-on activities and learn about different agricultural fields and career pathways. \n\n\n\nCampers also connect with MANRRS students (Minorities in Agriculture\, Natural Resources and Related Sciences) who share their experiences in college and agriculture-related careers. The program includes a visit to Nicodemus\, Kansas\, where students learn about the historic Black farming community while participating in outdoor activities such as horseback riding\, fishing\, and conservation learning. \n\n\n\nThe camp combines agricultural education with leadership development and cultural history\, giving youth a better understanding of the role agriculture plays in communities and future career opportunities. The program is supported by partners including Cargill\, USDA-NRCS\, and community organizations.
